Very interesting: ~About Art~

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 2, 2007, 8:18 PM
  • Mood: Artistic
Not all kind/styles of art are appreciated, don't you think?

It may look a little bit long, but please read it, it's worth it ;)

Not long ago, a friend of mine said:

"Seems to be that all the attention goes for the anime artist, I'm saying this because of what I see in forums, people who post their anime drawings in the thumbshare forum gets like 1000 replies per day easily and myself, for the other side, 1 per day if a miracle happens and most of them by people that seems to look at my pics just for pity... the same happens in the welcome forum and not just to artist like me; writers don't get the attention they deserve neither, just put in your message "I'm looking for anime friends" or something like that and you see an avalanche of replies coming, its depressing. I don't think my pics are that bad... in moments like this, I'm happy to have you guys, you are the only ones that look at my gallery and post comments and fav my stuff...no one else does
so thanks so much "
~GloomyFenris

And i have to agree with her... it's true that anime gets a lot of attention from at least i'd say 60% of the people here.
For example, about 2 days ago i reuploaded my anime pictures... i had almost 100 messages right after i finished...

The point here is that there are many styles that aren't appreciated such as Literature, Sculpture, Fractals, and a LOT more... i just don't it's good to bother you listing lots of styles so i just mention a few...

I think... what we all should do is of course, check the art we like... but give a chance to the ones we don't see often.
For example, not long ago i started reading a novel here in dA (and trust me, i'm not the 'reader' kind of guy) and it amazed me! i loved it so much i just couldn't stop, now i'm waiting anxiously until she uploads the new chapter =)
Now, she isn't the best... she has mistakes often like everybody does, or i simply say it'd be great to add this or that to what she does, in which case i make a critique, and not to her it's bad, not to hurt her feelings... i do it so she can improve and later on be a great writer, be popular among that style, feel great with herself.

What i'm trying to say here, is that is like food... yeah, food...
You can't really know you like or not something just taking a quick look, you have to taste it.
Even when we think we don't like it, we may be wrong.

Another friend said got inspired when i commented about this, to what she answered:

"To live having seen only one kind of art in your life is to sit in front of an unchanging window. Of course, the scenery changes every season, but in the end you only get a small taste of what the world has to offer..."
~CodeOmega3

So, don't you think it's true?
That we always try to stay 'safe' on what we know, that most of the times we don't care about something just because of it's looks, because it's too big, because it's unknown... Don't you think that behind every art piece there's a feeling hidden somewhere... a reason to make it, that maybe even the one who did it doesn't know it... but it may be discovered by someone else; and that 'someone' might be you. Yes, you.

So give them a chance, give you a chance to change your mind about art appreciation... Try it, and you wont regret it.

Now i'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I know it's long, but it's an interesting fact about art.

I hope i gave you a good reason to take a look at everything around you now, and not only to see what you already know.

To finish this long post, if you agree with this idea, please post about it in your journal, the forums, your signature, tell your friends...
Also, we will create a new 'all styles' club to show the world that every piece combines all the feelings you can imagine, that it has everything about the artist in it, a new point of view... A new club so you can show the world you're not the person sitting in front of that unchanging window...

~Nick

Hi!

I was wondering is it possible to change the font in your action? :)

Yes, you can.
Use the text mask or selection tool (Click and hold on the text tool, and you'll see the option, it's a text tool that will write like a selected object)
After you write with the fond that you want, click on the action on the option after writeing, and hit play from there.
This is all by memory since i'm not looking at the action right now, but if you need further help, please post in the action deviation and i'll reply there.

Good luck ^^

Hola Nick ¡¡¡

In English:

First thank you for your article. I have several years of visiting often Deviantart, because there truly wonderful, but I never really decided to sign up, recently did. I've noticed that anime and I think the nude photographs which unfortunately is more "success" is here. The vast majority only care about having many pageviews at all costs, no matter how. Thus we find many have no qualms about real shit up just to have watchers and favs. Rather fortunately also find wonderful artists of all genres and personally that's what I notice. I am not against the anime or nudity but any image can be considered art. Far from it. In short, everyone is free to choose their way of understanding art and what you need in deviantart. What happened to the club? I think anything, just was a nice idea and it was... I hope one day come true. A hug to everyone.

wow! i totaly agree with this! i mean i like anime and stuff but i can't exactly draw it. and i also feel that the people who draw anime get more attention than, let's say, the sketch artists and the photographers or whatever. i'm glad someone has noticed it.

I totally agree. I'm a novelist myself and my stories barely get any readers. But any time I post up a pretty color pencil drawing of a Kingdom Hearts character I get a lot of favs/comments/ views. It's a bit sad to me. I really like my writing. I like people to read it but few do. :(

I don't entirely agree with this. I'd say the whole idea is quite endearing, everyone should start looking around more, pay more attention to the details, try new things, blah blah. In more ways that one. I'm all for it. But somehow this sounds as if you all feel threatened by the anime-freaks. Don't be. There are people who are here just to see fan arts of their favorites anime, cartoons, or whatever they watch on TV. They are not here to see art, to see new things. They don't really care. It'd be great if we could make them care, make them see other aspects of life, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that there are people who get to appreciate the stuff you post here, and people who won't. What would it be like to have thousands of faves on every piece of art you post here? It'd feel great, I'm sure ... But, don't you think it's better to get just a few faves and a few replies that mean something? I believe those few to be the ones that really matter. Contrary to those, like you said, that get 2000 faves in less that an hour just because it has some anime character or some kind of porn in it. If you want fame, start doing that.
If you came here so that your stuff meant something to someone, quit complaining! I'm sure your stuff will mean the world to someone in ways that a crappy anime wannabe never will.
If what you are looking for is advice or critiques on your work then you should reach more to people telling them to do just that! I don't think it's fair, but some have to work harder for people to see what they have than others. May be though, but that's life guys.
And then, there's the awful truth that many artists don't want to admit. Thousands of thousands may love the work you have, some love your gallery, some have your stuff bookmarked and yet they are never going to 'fave' your work or post a comment, because they just don't care that there's a person behind it, they just love the way it looks. Some people are crap, and we all have to deal with it.

This turned out way longer that I intended, I'm sorry for that, and if this offends anyone, I'm sorry for that too, 'cause it isn't supposed to.

Leaving all I wrote aside and going back to what I said first, I think it's a great idea and that we all should open our heads and eyer a lot more. And I don't mean just here, I mean with everything that we do, or don't do for that matter! Movies, music, books, people, you name it! I'm 100% with you on that part.

PS: I think that the people who need to do that the most are never going to get here and read this, don't you?

I have to say, I agree with the article you posted, and, yes, it is sad that most people stick with one genre and don't look to gaze through that figurative " window" CodeOmega mentioned. Recently, I have gotten into more realistic types of art, and began straying away from anime style. I enjoy " anime" style as much as everyone else, but I look to others now. I really think that this article hit home, PSNick. I'm sure that other artists will appreciate this and that anime lovers will get the messgae and broaden their horizons.

I know it's been a bit since you wrote that, but I just have to say, thank you for saying what I've been thinking for a while now, and saying it so beautifully. Part of why I'm on DA is to learn from others, not only to improve myself and my work, but to see what's possible. Anime and fanart can be wonderful, but they're just the red on the spectrum of art. There's a lot more out there that is just as deserving of attention.

So again, thankyou! Would you mind if I post a link to this in my journal?

Your very true, anime gets alot of views.. I guess its the interest in the person, not what the type of art is about.. Just my opinion, and your facts are all true. I got flamed for a different type of art with words, telling quotes and words of me and what im interested in and stuff.. it was on the front page for two hours and got like 300 hate comments.. how low.. XD i guess thats a different story.. but i suggest people should make friends and then ask them to read it if their that desprete for views,or could join a club..

I actually look at the anime stuff less than I look at the rest, but that has to do with my own style also. I'm a writer, photographer, and pixel artist, so anime's not really my cup of tea.

Really awesome that you took the time out to write this, looking forward to the club. What will it be called?

That was really lovely! I understand a lot about what you mean! I will admit it though: I am an anime artist. I've been doing this for about 7 years now(6 of those years being really lonely, because no one had never even heard of word anime/manga. Now it’s a growing economic boom! Holly cow! That was fast!). But I know I draw anime because I love it, I'm absolutely enchanted by the art form. Still that doesn't mean that I wont get my feet wet with new thing. Aside from anime, I absolutely love photography. Even though I couldn't take a decent picture to save my life, I still love it. Both my father and friends who are professional photographers, I absolutely love their work! But you’re right, more people need to open up their hearts, eyes, and minds to art and art appreciation. ‘Cuz I think in the end, our reasons are all the same. Our love of creative inspiration, and our love of sharing that love, that makes us all artists. It’s a wonderful thing, I think. Anyways thank you very much for posting this, I thought it was really interesting and meaningful! ^_^

I'm glad you said this. I've always noticed that sites like these have a bias, but I thought I was just being sensitive...

Writers need love, too, you know? Writers and photographers and visual effects people. There are so many different possibilities available to mold and create into something unique, and limiting to just one medium completely reduces the potential...

Totally true.
But it doesn't happen only here... keep in mind that anime (just to say one genre... but it must happen with many other things too) is something global. I love anime for example, and i really enjoy it... but man, that doesn't mean i have to limit myself to see that kind of art.
All i'm saying is that people need to open their mind and take a look at new things. It can open their minds, help them express their feelings, and why not, help them realize that what they were doings was or wasn't the right thing for them.
That happened to me. I started working with anime, and then i moved on to visual effects, and i love it =)

Thanks for your comment ^^

Wow I found this journal randomly, and hell yes you are right. The quote by CodeOmega sums it up perfectly!! I agree with you 110%! For example, just browsing through devART, I see styles I don't usually like, but by another artist I can really get into it...people need to spend more time experiencing the new and different!

I am definitely putting this in my signature!

That's right!, for exampe, i never in my lfe read poetry until a few months back.. after that i wrote a few things, made a poem... i mean, you can do lots of stuff, you can even change and improve your own style by getting ideas from other pieces you didn't even care about before. Doing so doesn't only help other artists, it can help you too.

I swear it's not even funny how true that is. Anime is fine and all, but everyone else ends up on the street.

Space artists such as myself are ALWAYS underrated, almost no views, and it's a nightmare to get any attention because no one cares to look at all. It's been one heck of a nightmare for me at least to get out there as a space artist.

I tried anime but I just don't get the same enjoyment out of making it, space art just carries that appeal to me.

Down with overrated anime

I'm glad to hear you're with me =)

In my case, i really love space art, i just LOVE it with capital letters and all.. But hey, as you said many people don't think that way.
For what we can do is just go to the thumbshare forum, or maybe other sites and try to get some exposure.

For over a year now i've been wanted to start a graphics website and forum, but i just never had the time or resources. Recently i 'bought' a VPS (As i read something about web design in that awesome fire piece you made, i assume you know what a VPS is) where i'll host my sites and also, if i can, start a new one dedicated to art, design, graphics..

Anyway, i hope i can do that soon, maybe it wont be much, but hopefully some people will start thinking different about the rest of art too.

See ya!
